Roses are Red, Violets are blue. Colors are fun when learning with you!

How is it almost Valentine’s Day!? Plink Co. recently has released several adorable color sorting Montessori toys including these adorable valentine themed ones so it only seemed appropriate to talk about colors on this blog post! (Warning: Be prepared for picture overload! There are so many different options so I have a lot to show you!) Perhaps you already know that teaching kids things like color sorting and shape sorting actually set fundamentals for mathematics, but this was news to me! This Valentine’s sensory box (pictures above) is absolutely adorable and has a little of both! If you don’t want the full sensory box though, there is a smaller angel peg doll version as well!
And if you don’t want the Valentine theme, that is not the only option!
These sensory boxes are great because there are so many things you can do with them! You and your kids or students can use your imagination and use them in several ways that all encourage learning!

There is the smaller angel peg doll version of this as well!

If you’re looking for something a little more simplified and not as advanced, these color sorting peg dolls and pots (pictures below) are a great option! And there are various color options!

My son got a set of these for Christmas and he has had fun with them but he mastered them pretty quickly. I think this is because he already knows these colors. I wish I had it for him just a couple of months sooner! It would have been so helpful it teaching him his colors. I do think the sensory boxes would be great for him at the stage he is in now or the new acorns (keep reading)!

These new acorns are the cutest little things. They’re great for colors, numbers, sorting, and memory! These acorns hide inside of the pots and it can be played as a memory game to find the two matching colored acorns! They come in sets of 8 or 12.
There are also these wooden acorn and sorting bowl sets that are absolutely adorable too!  Great for sorting colors and counting! Again, there are so many fun ways to use these and they can really spark the imagination of a child!

In light of colors, and numbers and shapes if those interest you more, here is a fun little Valentine’s activity that can be done at home or in the classroom. It’s Valentine Themed Tic-Tac-Toe! Get creative with this! There are so many things you can use for Tic-Tac-Toe that are not just writing X’s and O’s. Like these peg dolls from Plink Co. Express Learning, or the foam hearts and circles in the sensory boxes, or just 2 different colors of Hershey kisses! There are also very cute math games out there that you can play on a tic-tac-toe board. Just search Pinterest and you’ll find all sorts of ideas.

Gobble ‘till you Wobble (Board)

How is it possible that it’s almost Thanksgiving?! My, how the time is flying! I’ve been trying to teach Corban to say “Gobble Gobble” so that I could get a video of him Gobbling while he’s wobbling on his Plink Co. Wooden Wobble Balance Board. He says something that sounds like a mix between Gobble and Wobble but the struggle to get it on video for you is real!  What I do have for you, in light of Thanksgiving coming up, is a fun printable for the kids!   Thanksgiving Placemat - Free Download Corban's not quite 2 but he’s totally going to be scribbling all over one of these! He loves coloring! He has a wooden table that we let him color at but instead of coloring at his table he’s started coloring on his table! We tried for a while to get him to only color on his coloring book but his table has started looking like a piece of art so we gave up.  When Erica gave us our Plink Co. Wooden Wobble Balance Board I told her we’d try to keep the crayons away from it so it stays nice for pi

The Code of the Plink Co. Elves

Merry Christmas! Actually, Happy Thanksgiving, but I think most of us hit full Christmas mode by 4:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day! I wake up from my post-turkey nap and get out the adds for my Black Friday shopping.  My Black Friday shopping looks so different this year! It’s been happening all week online and I’m betting most of you are in the same boat! I keep thinking I’m done shopping for the kids but then Erica sends me pictures of new toys coming to the store and I want them all... for the kids of course.  Our Christmas decor is up and soon we will be watching one of our favorite Christmas movies, Elf!  With the holidays in mind, I could not resist basing this post off of the code of the Code of the Elves. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, please go watch the movie! So here it is... The Code of the Plink Co. Elves: 1.) Treat Every Day Like Christmas (Especially Black Friday and Christmas Day of course)      There have been sales all week but there are some great deals and new r

Learning from Virtually Anything

I’ve been thinking lately while watching my son as he grows and learns, that there is an opportunity for learning in everything. Even in these pictures, We counted to 5 to get him to sit still long enough for a picture for the blog. I’ve been trying to use these little moments to teach him, whether it be a life lesson, or learning things like numbers, colors, and words.  He is so excited about learning his colors right now! We’ve just been using anything and everything to help him learn them but I cannot wait to give him his Plink Co. Color sorting peg dolls for Christmas! He also loves practicing those fine motor skills. My sister has a pair of air pods and one of his favorite things is taking them out of the case and putting them back in. I think these peg dolls will bring hours of entertainment to our house! It’s always a win when learning is fun! This year has been a rollercoaster to say the least!  All of you teachers and homeschooling parents rock!  There have been so many learni
